Two new dumping hot spots have been discovered on Ten Acres’ 5th Street and Wheatlands’ 9th Street.
In terms of infrastructure, these areas have been argued to be seemingly forgotten by the Randfontein Local Municipality by angry residents.
As a result of this neglect, dubious residents seem to be taking advantage of the these areas being far removed from suburban and town boundaries and dump their excess rubbish in these areas.
It has been brought to the attention of the herald that a few residents in the Wheatlands area have contributed to the mess on 9th Street. The resident who brought this to light wants to remain anonymous in fear of being excluded by neighbors.
While there is no excuse for blatantly disobeying the law, people in smallholding areas do not have a garbage collection service like so many of the suburban and town residents. They have to drive their rubbish to the nearest collection point which in itself is inconvenient and could lead to illegal dumping closer to home.
Both Ten Acres and Wheatlands have also had three incidents in total of animal carcasses being dumped on the side of the road.
