Randgate fire leaves five homeless

Family of Randgate fire escapes with only the clothes on their backs.

A family is left with nothing but the clothes they had on after a fire had broken out at their house in Randgate on Monday morning.

“I don’t know what happened. I just saw flames,” Chantelle Joubert and mother of three children said.

According to her, her husband kicked down doors with the only thing going through his mind at the time being: “To protect my wife and children”.

Their son was one the first people to be taken to a safe place.

“I had to try my best to put the fire out and I basically did with help from others before the Fire Department got here,” Antonie Joubert said.

Chantelle Joubert fled the house barefoot and in pajamas and her son had only a pair of shorts on.

“We have nothing now but the clothes we have on. Everything that I had was lost in this fire,” she said.

Fortunately for the Joubert family, no one was injured but it is believed neighbors are shook up.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
