Police are investigating a case of murder after Randfontein Subregional Coordinator for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Monde Kwenyama, 33, was stabbed to death on Christmas Day.
A police statement confirmed that officers were called to attend an incident of assault in Plum Street, Toekomsrus that morning.
At the scene police were told that Kwenyama had been stabbed but was taken to the Emergency Services Centre already to have the wound tended to. However, he was declared dead upon arrival at the centre.
According to Raylene Martin, Kwenyama’s sister-in-law, Monde’s 10-year-old son witnessed the entire ordeal and is traumatised severely.
Police have a 32-year-old suspect in custody who allegedly is well known to Monde.
Warrant Officer Bongani Mpete is investigating the alleged murder.
