Several carcasses found dumped

Remains of at least two animals found on 5th Street in Ten Acres.

Illegal dumping in Randfontein has hit an all-time low after the remains of animals were found dumped on the side of the road in the area.

On 5th Street in Ten Acres the carcass of a black calf was found on Monday 5 January. It was lying at the side of the road in full view of those driving to and from Ten Acres.

The smell was unbearable as well as the sight of it decomposing – covered in flies and maggots.

In October, the carcass of a Labrador was discovered by a resident just metres from where the calf carcass was found lying. The dog had a black bag over its head and its throat had been slit.

There is no evidence of the two incidents being related, however, it is peculiar that this specific road is the dumping site of choice for animal carcasses.

In addition the entire road is being used as a dumping site for an array of trash – from tyres to food that has passed its expiry date.

The herald is currently in talks with the local SPCA to have the carcass removed.
