Matric results 2014: Gauteng the top performing province

'Gauteng had the highest number of candidates qualifying for a Bachelor of Arts' - Gauteng MEC of Education

Gauteng has much to celebrate after the release of the matric results on Tuesday as they were announced the top performing province with regards to matric.

In the announcement of the matric results, Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng MEC for Education stated that Gauteng had the “Highest number of candidates qualifying for a Bachelor of Arts.

” Out of the 150 752 pupils that wrote and qualified for a Bachelor’s pass, 36 834 or 24 per cent of the total came out of Gauteng.

The top school in the province was said to be Hoërskool Garsfontein located in Tshwane South (D4) who achieved 100 per cent pass rate, 593 distinctions and achieved 273 out of 367 Bachelor’s passes.

The top pupil in Gauteng is Sigourney Lishman from Afrikaans Hoër Meisie Skool also in Tshwane South (D4) who passed with a Bachelor’s pass and eight distinctions.

It should also be noted that in the speech, it was said that the amount of girls that write matric outweighs the amount of boys. In addition, more girls write matric, pass and obtain university entrance.
