Gunmen target mother and two daughters

'House robberies in the area have occurred more frequently in the past month' — police.

A 59-year-old woman and her two daughters were victims of a house robbery in Homelake by an unknown number of armed suspects over the weekend.

The victim told police she was in her study at approximately 11.30pm on Sunday, 4 January, when she heard glass shattering after which she pressed the panic button. After doing this, she heard her daughter, 38, scream. Upon investigation, she saw two armed men in the house. The men then proceeded to hold up the woman and one of her daughters.

The suspects took electronic equipment before they fled the scene.

When the victim’s second daughter, who lives in a flat on the premises, rushed to the main house she was confronted by the fleeing suspects. Subsequently, one of the suspects hit her in her face with a gun. Later she was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The suspects are alleged to have fled in a silver Nissan Micra.

According to spokesperson for the Randfontein Police Captain Appel Ernst, “Residents of Homelake should be aware that house robberies in the area have occurred more frequently in the past month. Suspects’ modus operandi is to break a window to gain entrance to a house. If suspicious vehicles are noticed in the area, police must be contacted as soon as possible with a registration number if possible and a description of the vehicle.”

Any information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects can be reported to the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Karen Nel on 011 278 8100.
