Carjackers open fire at victims

Violent carjacking in Mohlakeng leaves man injured.

A man was shot and injured after two armed suspects targeted him and his son during a carjacking recently.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, “A 43-year-old man and his father were victims of a hijacking on Tuesday two weeks ago at approximately 10pm.

“It has been alleged that the father and son were in their yard and about to close the gate when they were surprised by two armed men. The father was threatened with the gun.

“The suspects demanded the car keys from the victims when one of them attempted to get rid of the keys by trying to throw them on the roof of the house. The suspects fired two gunshots in a bid to intimidate the victims and succeeded after which they took the victims vehicle and fled.

“The son then realized that his father was shot in his lower body and was rushed to hospital to treat the injury he sustained.”

The case is currently under investigation by Warrant Officer M.T. Mashele of the VIS unite in Protea Glen. Should anyone have any information that can assist the investigation, he should be contacted on 011 213 9000.
