A family is severely traumatized after three armed men entered their house and robbed them of their belongings.

According to Randfontein police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst the incident occurred on the first Wednesday of December (Wednesday 3 December).

“While the family was sleeping, a man knocked on their front door just after midnight. According to the 47-year-old father of the house, one of the children opened the door for the man who allegedly was asking for assistance. When the child opened the door he was confronted by three armed men.

“The child’s father had woken up by then and went to investigate. When he saw the armed men he allegedly tried to block them from coming into the house. The men fired one shot through the door and then entered when the father and child ducked away from the shot.

“The suspects then took cash and cellular telephones and fled the scene. No physical injuries were sustained during the incident. The mother and children are receiving on-going trauma counselling.

“Police are urging home owners to educate your children about not opening for anyone they don’t know and to teach them how to phone the police when there is danger.”

No one has been arrested in connection with the house robbery as yet.

The investigating officer, Warrant officer Thabiso Duiker can be contacted on 011 278 8100 with further information that might lead to the arrest or identification of the three armed suspects.
