120 Female officers flood the streets of Kagiso

Police force made up of female officers unite in the fight against violence of women and children.

Approximately 120 female police employees flooded the streets in Kagiso on Wednesday in a bid to raise awareness for Domestic Violence.

Women from the Krugersdorp Cluster, which included police officials and civilian personnel gathered at the Kagiso SAPS office where they were briefed by the Cluster Commander, Maj General Mateisi.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, “Our officers were also involved in the the operation.”

The women were dressed in uniform and Women Network attire and walked in all the sectors of Kagiso. They handed out pamphlets in order to inform the community about crime hot spots in the area.

According to Ernst, “This initiative was well received by the community and Mandisa Mdzeke, the Ward Councillor for Ward 7 expressed her appreciation towards the police and requested that similar activities be done more often.”

Towards the end of the operation, the women who took to the streets were addressed by Thabo Palolo of the Department of Correctional Services.

He spoke about the new parole initiative that was implemented in the department and how the police can help with the monitoring of these parolees.

“Operation Basadi as it has been described will continue throughout December with the aim to combat crime, create awareness and to ensure the safety of the communities we serve,” Ernst added.
