Investigation of collapsed building under way

Report as to what happened likely to be available on Wednesday.

Relevant authorities confirmed that an investigation is under way as to why the building had collapsed in Eighth Street in the Randfontein CBD on Monday.

“Construction has been suspended until the probe report is released from the owner’s engineer to the Randfontein Local Municipality,” Phillip Montshiwa, Communications Manager at the Randfontein Local Municipality said.

“The road has been cleared to drive through and traffic returned to normal on Tuesday,” Montshiwa assured.

When asked if the building plans were approved by the Randfontein Local Municipality, Montshiwa strongly said yes.

According to him, the report will be with the Randfontein Local Municipality on Wednesday to make apparent what went wrong.
