Woman surprised by attackers in her bedroom

'Woman sustained injuries to the body and is in severe shock' — police.

A 34-year-old woman was surprised by at least two of her attackers having returned home from a visit with friends police said.

According to Warrant officer Bongani Mpete from the Randfontein police, “The woman left her house open for only a couple minutes while visiting family across the street. That was all it took for the two men to gain entry into the house and hide in her bedroom.

“After she locked the door she allegedly switched off the light and got into bed and that’s when she heard a noise from inside the room. It was at that point that she realized that she was locked inside the room with her attackers.

“The one man then allegedly threatened the woman with a knife and assaulted her with his fist. It was during this time that the other man started taking the woman’s belongings including all the electronic equipment and cell phones.

“Both suspects fled from the scene on foot and we are yet to make any arrests.”

The woman sustained injuries to her body and according to police was in severe shock after the incident. Investigating Officer Mpete has warned residents to be more vigilant when it comes to locking their houses.

“Criminals are not stupid and are focused on what they need to do. You might not notice small things like an open window, but they do and it only takes a couple of minutes for them to get the upper hand end leave you helpless…even when you think you are safely locked away,” Mpete added.
