The Mohlakeng Stadium was host to Wellness Day where residents were offered free screenings for diabetes, TB, high blood pressure and HIV.
Residents and staff members danced to the music that was played to promote healthy living and prevention. Some staff members went as far as to put on a stylish show of their dance skills.
MEC for Health in Gauteng, Qedani Mahlangu started the initiative as one of the World Aids Day build-up events in conjunction with Pasop.
Pasop – the acronym for Prevent, Avoid, Stop, Overcome and Protect – is a campaign that forms an integral part of implementing the Gauteng Strategic Plan for fighting HIV/Aids and TB.
Representatives of various companies working with the Department of Health were seen at the event and offered free screenings to the public as well as advice on how to live more healthily.
Residents of Mohlakeng and officials took to the streets and marched from the Mohlakeng Recreation Centre to Mohlakeng Stadium carrying banners and placards to create awareness about fighting HIV and TB as well as unhealthy living.
