Movember for all

Two Mo’ bros and a Mo’ sista represent Randfontein in the yearly global event.

Movember is not only for those who can a grow a moustache.

The logo of this world-wide initiative committed to changing the face of men’s health mentions Mo Bros and Mo Sistas.

The Mo Bros grow a moustache (mo) for the 30 days of Movember to spark conversation and raise funds while Mo Sistas commit to supporting the men in their lives while helping to promote men’s health.

The Movember initiative started in Australia in 2003 with two Mo Bros discussing where the mo had gone and joking about bringing it back.

After being inspired by a friend’s mother who was raising money for breast cancer awareness, they decided to grow a mo to create awareness about men’s health and prostrate cancer. The two Mo Bros found 20 other Bros to join the cause.

The initiative has grown tremendously from 20 Mo Bros down under in 2003 to four million Bros across the world in 2013.
Randfontein locals Kobus Coetzee, Jo-Anne le Roux and Thato Moete proved that Movember is not for men only.

Kobus, a motorcycle enthusiast said he sports a moustache all year round but he does support Movember.

“For me it’s always Movember,” he joked and said the initiative is a fun way to raise awareness about cancer and men’s health in general.

When Thato, 5, was asked if he knew what Movember was all about, he nodded his head in agreement – much to the herald’s surprise.

He said when he grows up, he would like to grow a moustache or a full beard.

It took an entire ten seconds for Joanne to grow her moustache – ten seconds to rip off the tape and stick it to her upper lip.
