Heavy rains wash roads away

Potholes on Homestead Avenue something of the past?

The rains are here and Randfontein’s roads are crumbling under the pressure of heavy transport vehicles and traffic.

Homestead Avenue recently seemed more like an off-road challenge than a town road.

Smaller potholes had turned into wheel-demolishing craters. Even if motorists slowed down, they could not avoid the holes – some even stretched the width of the road.

Quick reaction by the Randfontein Local Municipality’s Department of Infrastructure saw to it that the road was fixed on Monday (17 November).

Most of the potholes were filled with tar, but with the rain only starting now, the question remains – what is the long-term plans for Randfontein’s roads?

Patching is a short-term solution, which would not last long considering the trucks using the roads.

The herald has sent a list of questions to municipal spokesperson Lucky Chiya regarding the municipality’s plans for the roads.

No comment has been received by the time of going to print. The herald will update.
