Movember for women

Bearded lady out-beards most men in Movember and causes a stir.

Movember has hit Randfontein but apparently not exclusively for men.

Recently it has proven that beards are inclusive of women also. A British woman, Harnaam Kaur recently became famous on the web for growing her beard.

This bizarre occurrence is a result of polycystic ovary syndrome, which is a condition that affects a woman’s hormones. She has created a global stir and has drawn people to read about her and the Movember cause.

DA ward councillor Peter Dick was seen sporting a full beard he allegedly started growing since the beginning of November. Many people think Movember and growing a moustache to be a trend followed in November.

Movember actually started as a means to create awareness for testicular and prostate cancer. The initiative also aims to gather funds for the cause.

South Africa currently is 16th on the global leader board with regard to the amount of funds gathered for the cause. On top of the list is the United States.

People can go onto the Movember South Africa website and pledge the amount they want to donate towards the cause. Thereafter they grow their moustache from 1 November and are allowed to shave their beards only at the end of the month.

Dick urged residents of Randfontein to take up the Movember Challenge, even if it is just for creating awareness by sporting a moustache.
