Kocksoord — Shoulder brushing, crossed arms, blown kisses; these were just some of the antics at this year’s Mr and Miss Avanté Primary School pageant.
As expected, the petite finalists sole the show and many hearts.
The highlight of the night other than the announcement of the winners, was the formal wear segment of the show. Mini-tuxedos and mock ball gowns were the order of the day when petite finalists walked on stage. Parents jumped up for an opportunity to snap pictures of their model children.
The older contestants proved to be slightly more competitive and walked the runway as though they were experienced models posing for the cover of Vogue. Each knowing when to smile, where to look, and how to pose.
This was not specific to the girls as the boys took to the stage serious and confident, with their suave nods in the direction of the judges and audience.
Judges were wowed by all age groups and even more so at the occasional wink and kiss blown by contestants. Some being as cute as to wink from dropped sunglasses. Of the judges included former Mrs. Queen of the Universe, Welma Laubscher and Collin Mkwanazi.
From their reactions to these gestures as well as the outfits, the task of choosing winners must have been a trying one.

• Avanté Personality: Lindiwe Shea.
• Mr Petite: Thapelo Phake, and Miss Petite: Yamkela Mbulula.
• Mr Avanté Junior: Thato Gabonewe (2nd prince), Okuhle Sibeko (1st prince), Junior Mokobane (winner).
• Miss Avanté Junior: Mathabo Molefe(2nd princess), Olerato Phetoe (1st princess), Mpho Moilwe (winner).
• Mr Avanté Senior: Onkgopotse Sera (2nd prince), Steven Brits (1st prince), Mongameli Nangu (winner).
• Miss Avanté Senior: Sweetness Faku (2nd princess), Reamogetse Mangope (1st princess), Nonhlanhla Phephu (winner).
