Venterspost Community Receives Library

'Project aimed at contributing towards improving passing rate' — mayor

Tuesday 28 October marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Venterspost community.

On this day Molebatsi Bopape, MEC of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation officially handed over a new library to Nonkoliso Tundzi, Executive Mayor of the Westonaria Local Municipality.

The project was brought about by a partnership between the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation and the Westonaria Local Municipality.

According to Tundzi the project aims to contribute “towards improving the passing rate and getting access to information about economic opportunities.”

The library boasts free internet access, new computers, a study section with cubicles and lastly, a kiddies section. The library will be taken care of by a head and assistant librarian. Furthermore, the grounds will be kept clean and operational by a caretaker.

Residents of Venterspost and Lebanon no longer have to travel long distances to visit a library; the library is less than 2km from Venterspost Primary School.

The opening was started in formal fashion when members of the community and officials were asked to stand for the singing of the South African National Anthem. Various musical items were performed by the Venterspost Primary School choir.

Prior to the ribbon cutting, the community of Venterspost were addressed by the MEC of Sport, Art, Culture, and Recreation. She was moved by the need for means of education in the community and was enthused equally by the response of the community. In her address she highlighted the importance of education and urged the community to take care of what she said is a near-R10 million development.

The ribbon cutting was accompanied with cheers from the community who were grateful for the development and interest in Venterspost. This is said to be but one of the first steps in the journey to urbanising Venterspost.
