Stolen goods worth R120 000 recovered

Former employee allegedly responsible for the theft was arrested.

Thanks to the joint efforts of police members from Randfontein and Honeydew a former employee of a local bakery was arrested in connection with the theft of goods worth thousands of rands.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, “Police managed to arrest a 53-year-old suspect for theft this past weekend. He also was found in possession of stolen property valued at approximately R120 000.

“In early October a Randfontein businesswoman opened a case of theft after property had been stolen from her bakery, Ekuzeni International Supplies.

“According to her the stolen equipment amounted to approximately R500 000. It was believed that a previous employee was responsible for the theft.

“Lieutenant Colonel Gert Kruger started with the investigation and discovered that some of the stolen property possibly was being kept in three different locations in the West Rand area,” she says.

Three weeks later Kruger, five members from Randfontein and two reservist members stationed at Honeydew simultaneously executed search-and-recovery operations in three different locations – in Cosmo City, Kagiso and Randburg.

During the search police recovered some of the property stolen from the bakery valued at approximately R120 000 and arrested the former employee.

He appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday 27 October.
