Family crash tragedy: Injured boy, 7, dies in hospital

Truck allegedly made a U-turn.

Netcare 911 confirmed that one of the children injured in Tuesday night’s horrific accident near Potchefstroom has died in hospital.

The boy, aged 7, was one of four injured – one of them a woman and three others children – following an accident on the R53 Parys Avenue near Erica Street in Elandsheuwel SH, Potchefstroom. A man was also killed.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann “Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a light delivery vehicle had crashed against a heavy goods vehicle and that the light delivery vehicles’ front was pinned underneath the heavy goods vehicle.

“Upon assessment of the occupants it was found that a man tragically lost his life and a woman and three children were all in a critical condition. The children were aged between three-months to seven-years-old.

“The critically injured patients were treated on scene and rushed to hospital for urgent medical care.

“Tragically the seven-year-old boy passed away during the night in hospital.”

Steinmann added “Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events are unknown at this stage and will remain the subject of a police investigation.”

Although it could not be confirmed it is believed the truck attempted to make a U-turn.
