63-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the face — police

Police has confirmed the shooting in Middelvlei and states that the victim who was shot and killed during the robbery was 63-year-old Vincent Parau.

Randfontein police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst says, “The robbery took place on the victim’s own premises at 10.15pm on Wednesday 22 October.

“According the victim’s 61-year-old wife, Corrie, they came home after a night out with friends and were met by four unknown men, one of whom was armed with what is alleged to be a handgun. The men then approached the vehicle.

“As the victim was getting out of his vehicle, the armed man suddenly shot him. The wife of the victim alluded to her husband dying on impact of the bullet. Police says the man sustained a gunshot wound to the face.The victim’s wife was assaulted during the incident and sustained no serious external injuries; however, she is traumatised tremendously.

“Unable to help her husband, the wife was taken into the house at gunpoint where the men began looting their valuables as well as opening safes within the house. The safes contained money and firearms.

“After ransacking the house, the wife alleged that something ‘spooked’ them and subsequently they fled the house.”

The Randfontein SAPS is investigating a case of house robbery.
