Culemborg Park murder suspect arrested

A 35-year-old suspect has been arrested for the murder of a woman found dead in Culemborg Park.

Police confirmed that a 35-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with the murder of a woman found dead in Culemborg Park.

On Saturday 5 October a 57-year-old woman, identified as Rina du Plessis, was found murdered in her home.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, “Police were called to a home in Culemborg Park where her body was found.

“Neighbours alleged that Du Plessis’s son became worried when his mother did not answer his calls over the weekend. He requested the neighbours to investigate, after which her body was discovered.

“Initially the death seemed to be owing to natural causes. The police subsequently opened an inquest. The scene was secured for forensic purposes and although foul play was not suspected, the postmortem indicated that the victim was murdered.

“When forensic investigators and police officers returned to the scene to collect more evidence, it was discovered that property also was missing from the house.

“The investigating team led by Lt Col Kruger conducted several interviews and followed up on information during the last week. The suspect was arrested on Saturday (11 October) and charged with murder.”

He appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday (13 October) and the case was remanded until Wednesday 22 October.
