Farewell Ouboet

Biker brotherhood says goodbye to friend while there are many unanswered questions about what exactly happened.

Family and friends packed the AFM Church in Silverfields this past weekend to say their last goodbyes to Harsh Times biker member Martin Edward Claassen. He was laid to rest in the Sterkfontein Cemetery.

Members of between 10 and 15 biker clubs from the West Rand attended the funeral service.

Claassen, 53, fondly known as Ouboet, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday 4 October. According to his wife Patricia, Claassen was on his way home after attending a Day Jol in Randfontein.

While at this point it is unclear as to what exactly happened she told the herald they believe Claassen had to swerve sharply and then crashed. He died after sustaining serious head injuries.

Claassen leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and grandchildren. Claassen was known as a passionate biker, involved with motorbikes for over 30 years. He was the national vice-president of the Harsh Times Biker Club.

Patricia described her husband as a “pleasant and kind person”
