Randfontein’s monster hole

Hole at the corner of Greenhills Avenue and Raven Road a no-go.

A massive sink hole has been discovered on the corner of Greenhills Avenue and Raven Road.

Although it does not pose a direct threat to the residents of Randfontein it may have serious implications as far as water preservation is concerned.

According to local DA councillor Peter Dick, “This sink hole most definitely has been caused by underground steel sewage pipes that eroded over the years”.

He adds that the sewage spilling from the broken pipe caused the ground to erode and a sink hole to form.

“Although the hole is out of sight, it still causes a serious problem as the sewage and water spill can affect the residents in the surrounding area,” says Dick.

Dick explains that the entire sewage line should be dug up and replaced as other sections may be in the same eroded state.

“I immediately reported the problem to the Randfontein Local Municipality and they responded that they will repair the sewage line in the near future,” says Dick.

They will put in a manhole where the sink hole has formed.
