One woman, 60, was killed and a man of the same age injured after their motorcycle collided with a car on the R563 in Hekpoort yesterday (14 September).
According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, paramedics responded to the scene and found both patients lying on the side of the road in a critical condition.
“We got to the scene and found that both patients were injured critically. Their bike lay some distance away on the side of the road.
“We found that both patients sustained severe injuries to the right side of their bodies,” says Meiring.
He adds that paramedics started treating the patients at the scene and that a helicopter had to be called in to transport the male patient to a private hospital outside Johannesburg for further treatment.
It is understood that while the female patient was being treated at the scene she succumbed to her injuries after her vitals rapidly diminished.
At this stage the cause of the accident is unknown and remains a subject of police investigation.
