Women’s month: 9 arrested, 120+ cases reported

'We will stop at nothing to root out the destructive elements on our roads' — traffic chief

During Women’s Month Randfontein traffic police made a number of arrests at their roadblocks and more than 120 cases were reported.

According to Randfontein traffic chief Kenny Mampondo, a total of seven road blocks were held.

“We are pleased to report that we managed to arrest at least nine motorists on a charge of drunken driving. We also found 25 people driving without driver’s licences and they were slapped with fines to that effect.

“Another 22 motorists were fined for not wearing their seat belts while five minibus taxis were found to be overloaded.

“One driver was fined for driving with a learner’s licence but without an assistant driver, and 10 other motorists were found to be operating cars with worn-out tyres,” says Mampondo. He adds that another 30 drivers were fined for vehicle defects such as worn-out brake pads, horns and lamps.

All these were issued by Randfontein female traffic officers as part of their Women’s Month endeavours.

“We really are happy with the statistics. We will have more road blocks towards the festive season and we will issued fine to those who break the law.

“We will stop at nothing to root out the destructive elements on our roads,” says Mampondo who urges motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in working order to avoid unnecessary accidents.
