McDonald’s introduces new character, Happy

'New character to promote healthy and active lifestyle.'

McDonald’s South Africa on Tuesday welcomed a new face and character to the family named Happy.

The introduction of the new animated character Happy promotes healthy choices and fun at meal times.

“Happy” will be introduced nationwide over the next few months, and both parents and kids across South Africa can look forward to the “Happy” roadshow that will take place in all major centres around South Africa.

According to Daniel Padiachy, senior marketing director at McDonald’s South Africa “Born from the original ‘Happy’ Meal box, the new ‘Happy’ virtual character aims to reignite the love for the brand and the excitement that kids express at the prospect of opening the ‘Happy’ Meal box.

“Happy promotes McDonald’s push for utilising innovative technologies by evolving the static brand to that of a virtual brand promoting physical activity for kids and their parents.

“McDonald’s is a family restaurant. Through the “Happy” character, we hope not only to promote a healthy active lifestyle, but encourage families to do more physical activities together, recreating special fun filled moments that are shared by all.

“More importantly, we are all about giving kids and their parents something extra special to look forward to during their next trip to McDonald’s.”

Padiachy added “Current work pressures and daily deadlines see families spending less and less time together, and as family remains the cornerstone of what McDonald’s stands for, “Happy” aims to encourage families to re-connect through active play while sparking loads of fun moments for the whole family.”

Families are encouraged to join McDonald’s on the day and experience a range of “Happy” activities, the most exciting being the new “Happy” signature dance.
