Police reveals safety tips

'I can never stress enough how important it is for people to keep safe at all times' — Police

While Randfontein is perceived to be the safest place to live in according to the Quality of Life survey conducted by the Gauteng City-Region Observatory in 2013, residents have been warned to keep safe and be vigilant at all times.

Randfontein police spokesperson Appel Ernst who urges residents to constantly be aware of their surroundings at all times especially when walking alone.

“I can never stress enough how important it is for people to keep safe and avoid walking alone if they can help it.

“Criminals are still about and about and often target people who seem vulnerable when walking alone.

“To combat this, I would urge people to take precautionary measures and walk in groups if possible, especially at night.”

“People should also try to walk in well lit areas so as to avoid being targets and not have their valuables on display” says Ernst who adds that one should also avoid talking to strangers where possible as criminals can sometimes come across as the friendliest persons.

“These are some of the tips that people should take note of.

“To keep safe in their respective spaces, I will also urge people to consider being a member of an armed response service and make sure that they know all emergency numbers and have them displayed in accessible arrears,” says Ernst who says that this will assist them in their time of need.
