One dead, two critical when car crashes into tree

"Firemen worked tirelessly for more than two hours to free the critically injured" — Netcare 911

A man died and two others were injured critically when the vehicle they travelled in crashed into a tree early this morning.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, “The accident occurred after 2am along Condor Drive in Helikon Park.

“A report from the scene indicates that the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree. Exact details as to the cause, however, will be investigated by police.

“Netcare 911 paramedics found the occupants still trapped in the twisted frame of the car.

“When treating the injured they found that two people had sustained life-threatening injuries while one person tragically had died before our arrival. Firemen worked tirelessly for more than two hours to free the critically injured from the wreckage while paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise them.

“After the patients were treated and extricated the critically injured female was airlifted to a local hospital in Netcare’s helicopter while the critically injured man was transported to hospital by ambulance for the care he required.”
