McLaren Circus tiger attacks man

"Tiger not to blame" — owner tells media

A man had to be transported to hospital after he was attacked by a McLaren Circus tiger yesterday.

McLaren Circus visited Randfontein earlier in August for three days as part of their Gauteng tour. They are currently in Rietfontein on Beyers Naude Drive where the incident occurred.

According to Netcare 911’s Chris Botha “A worker sustained critical injuries after he was attacked by one of the Tigers that happened to escape from his enclosure.

“Exact detail as to how the tiger got out of the enclosure is still speculative at this stage.”

Botha explains further “Netcare 911 received the call at around 7.50am and raced to the circus site in Beyers Naude Drive in Rietfontein.

“When they arrived at the scene they found a man lying on the ground with severe bite wounds and lacerations to his neck and chest.

“Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the man on scene before they transported him to a nearby hospital for the specialised care that he required.”

David McLaren, owner of the circus told News 24 “The tiger attack was not that bad as people are making it out” and that “the tiger was not to blame, and should not be put down.”

  2. Poor tiger shouldn’t be blamed or shot. The owner should be, how on earth do you lock a wild animal in a small cage for human entertainment!!! It is pathetic to think that a wild animal should stay in a small cage. I never want to see the McLaren show, just because I saw how small the cage is, he is a frustrated wild animal, and didn’t ask to be locked up in a cage! Animal circus’s should be banned!!!!!

  3. Wild animals shouldn’t be in a small cage!!!!!!!!!! Ban the animal circus’s!!!!!!

  4. The days of circuses with wild animals are over. Went to a circus recently with no wild animals, was lovely. This is really not on.

  5. we went to watch the circus when they ere in Randfontein, No its not the tiger’s fault! The people that work @ the circus, know that a wild animal will always stay wild, must have bn the guys fault not the animal! Y do we go to circus?? not just for the crazy clown acts and danger stunts shown, but to see animals close by too! Don’t point fingers, when you’re not sure of the truth behind the storie too!!
