Chiya’s court case postponed a ninth time

Trial of mayor's right hand for identity fraud to start October.

Randfontein Local Municipality mayoral spokesperson Lucky Chiya appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on a charge of identity fraud where his case was postponed yet again; this time to 13 October when his trial is set to start.

The decision was passed on Wednesday during Chiya’s ninth appearance in court.

Meanwhile, the case has been running for more than six months now with Chiya having been arrested in December last year after having used a fraudulent identity document to obtain credit.

At the time Chiya was reported to be under sequestration and has been out on R1 000 bail.

Chiya has refused to comment on the proceedings of the case.
