Mayor to host gender-based violence event

"We need to speak up against gender-based violence" — Mayor.

The Randfontein Local Municipality Executive Mayor Sylvia Thebenare will be hosting a gender-based violence campaign event and invites residents to come and show their support.

The event will be held in Mohlakeng Extension 11 from 9am until 2pm on Wednesday 27 August.

According to Thebenare the purpose of the event is to discredit these acts of violence within communities of Randfontein.

“Despite information about gender-based violence being publicised, more still needs to be done in terms of awareness. We feel that we need to do our bit in encouraging people to speak out against abuse of any kind, especially violence against women and children,” says Thebenare.

She adds, “This is yet another Women’s Month project aimed at empowering women from all walks of life.”
