Female traffic cops take a stand at roadblocks

Officers say there will be no place to hide.

Randfontein’s female traffic officers have been out and about, sending out a strong message that road-rule benders will not be tolerated in their town.

This was done through their numerous women-only roadblocks to celebrate August as Women’s Month.

The herald caught up with one of the officers during a roadblock on Main Reef Road yesterday where numerous motorists were stopped and their vehicles searched.

According to traffic officer Charmaine Ntlekani, “We have had a rather busy month with the women-only roadblocks and have issued numerous traffic fines. These roadblocks proved to be very successful.

“Although at this stage I am unable to give the statistics of the fines we have issued, I can assure you that a lot of motorists who are road-rule benders were brought to book.”

Ntlekani added that fines were issued for numerous defects on vehicles such as faulty breaks, warn-out tyres and expired licence discs.
