Youngsters to attend Summit in Ireland

Thato Sethe and Jackie Shabangu selected for One Young World Summit in Dublin.

Randfontein’s Jackie Shabangu and Thato Sethe are calling on the community to come forward and help them live their dreams by sponsoring them in order to attend the One Young World Summit in Dublin, Ireland.

This, after they were selected to attend the summit which will be held in the European country from 15 to 19 October 2014.

There, both Shabangu and Sethe who are the founders of Educate SA — an Non Profit Organization aimed at youth empowerment projects — will be expected to debate, formulate and share innovative solutions with their counterparts with regards to pressing issues that affect the world.

According to a statement received from the organization, the summit gives young people the kind of media platform and forum ordinarily afforded only to leaders of the nation.

It states that “Jackie Shabangu has been selected as a outstanding candidate to attend the upcoming summit on the basis of his capacity and for his leadership concern about global issues and his ability to generate and articulate strong ideas. We also picked him for his evident commitment in certain youth upliftment projects as well as and simply because he has distinguished himself as an exemplary young leader,” the Statement read and Shabangu will be joined by his colleague Sethe.”

Throughout the years, the summit has been attended by influential leaders by the likes of former US president Bill Clinton, Archbischop Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan and Jamie Oliver among other people.

The herald decided to speak to the two to hear how they feel about the opportunity.

“We are really honoured for this opportunity and we feel that South Africa is faced with serious challenges. We trust that we will be able to apply some of the knowledge we get in Ireland should we receive enough funding to attend the summit,” says Shabangu.
