Flower club celebrates its 45th birthday

"This to celebrate years of hard work, sweat and tears" — deputy chairperson

The Wisteria Flower Club in Randfontein celebrated its 45th birthday with its members by hosting a grand tea party at the NG Kerk in Greenhills this past weekend.

According to Leon Hefer who is deputy chairman of the organisation, “This was to celebrate years of hard work, sweat and tears that went into the establishment of the club.

“Our organisation is mainly about flowers and flower designs and we usually gather at least once every month to showcase our flower designs. We have members coming all the way from Randfontein, Westonaria, Krugersdorp and Roodepoort and I must say, we are a bunch of talented people.

“Each of us demonstrates beautiful flower designs for the month and we do this according to a theme,” says Hefer.

“We have three qualified judges who then decide who the winner for the month is and issue ‘homework’ with regard to the flower designs and the themes for the following month.

“We have three categories for this, namely the beginners, intermediate and advanced phase. Those who perform well throughout the year are then presented with a trophy at the organisation’s year-end function.”
