Girl, 17, mugged at gunpoint

"Suspects believed to be a couple" — police.

Randfontein Police is on the lookout for a couple suspected of mugging a 17-year-old at gunpoint in Greenhills earlier this week.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst the girl was mugged while walking with a friend.

“From what we understand, the victim was walking home from a bus stop when she was confronted by a male armed with a firearm together with a female accomplice who ensued to search her. The female accomplice found that the girl had a cellphone in her possession and immediately took it,” says Ernst.

She adds that fortunately the victim did not sustain any injuries during this time and says that she only was traumatised by the incident.

Meanwhile, anyone who might have any information with regard to this specific incident is urged to contact the investigating officer into the case, Warrant Officer Santie le Roux on 011 767 2300.
