Community warned against dangerous gang

Three suspects are said to be terrorising the community of Randfontein.

Residents of Randfontein and its surrounding areas are urged to be cautious and remain vigilant as a dangerous group of criminals is said to be terrorising the community.

Areas most notably affected are Randgate, Greenhills and Randpoort.

According to EPR operations manager Mac van Zyl, “These criminals attack residents in their driveways and force them into their houses. We understand that a group of three men terrorises the community of Randfontein through house robberies and vehicle thefts.

“From what we have observed, they attack residents in their driveways and then demand valuable items such as TVs, jewellery and money from their houses. We heard that the suspects also demand residents’ vehicles prior to fleeing from the scene,” says Van Zyl.

“The suspects are said to be travelling in a silver Opel Corsa sedan with an unknown registration number,” Van Zyl adds.

“Always make sure that you are not being followed on your way home, especially when you stop at your gate to enter your premises. Rather wait in the street while the gate opens. This will give one an opportunity to escape should trouble arise.

“Always make sure that nobody is loitering outside the gate when you leave your premises. If you see a suspicious vehicle please report this to the police and try to obtain the vehicle’s registration number.”

Van Zyl urges the public that if held up, they should remain calm and do whatever the perpetrators demand.
