Municipal workers to pull up their socks

"Heads will roll if workers do not take their jobs seriously" — municipality.

Municipal workers who are under-performing and not taking their jobs seriously when it comes to lodging and attending to residents’ service delivery complaints will have to face the music.

Phillip Montshiwa, Randfontein Local Municipality head of communications said this during a meeting with the herald recently.

According to him, this is yet another step aimed at improving the municipality’s response to resident’s complaints.

“As much as we encourage residents to report their issues of service delivery such as potholes, missing manhole covers and everything else to the municipality, we also need to play our part,” Montshiwa said.

“People approach us saying they complained about this or that and never found joy with the municipality. We are told that they spoke to someone whose name they could not recall, insisting that a particular complaint had been lodged despite our not having any proof of such a complaint,” he added.

“To fight this challenge, we request that when lodging their complaints, residents ask the name of the consultant they are dealing with and the department in which they work. Should the resident’s complaint not be attended to, this will allow us to trace the person in question and find out why,” Montshiwa continued.

He said this is bound to make municipal workers pull up their socks and perform better as far as service delivery is concerned.
