Mandela Day: Police do their bit for Madiba

...by providing people near the dumping site in Randfontein a hot meal and blankets.

People living in the informal settlements near the dumping site in Westergloor and its surrounds received a hot meal and so much more as local police did their bit on Mandela Day (18 July).

Randfontein and Krugersdorp Police prepared hot soup, served with bread for these residents and handed out blankets to keep warm this winter.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst, “Approximately 50 police officers from Randfontein and Krugersdorp joined in on the event and spoiled the young ones as well.

“It was really nice to see us join hands with other authorities to give back to the community on the West Rand,” says Ernst.

“We mainly picked the dumping site owing to the under privileged people staying there. We also handed out mattresses to residents,” Ernst adds.
