Cop shoots lover, then himself

"We believe they had an argument" – Randfontein SAPS.

A Randfontein Police officer, 33, shot and killed his girlfriend, 25, at her home in Mohlakeng before turning the gun on himself early Wednesday (16 July) morning.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Appel Ernst, the incident occurred at approximately 6.30am inside the girlfriend’s home at the corner of Seme and Perry Ndlovu Streets.

“We suspect the two had a domestic quarrel prior to the shooting,” says Ernst.

She confirms that the officer was a constable at the Randfontein Police Station.

“He allegedly had finished his shift before visiting her house where a domestic dispute ensued. It is believed that he shot her in the upper body and then turned the firearm on himself. At this stage I cannot reveal too much information as the case is still under investigation,” Ernst adds.

It is said that the officer died on scene due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman died instantly.
