Zuma calls on nation to honour the late father of the nation.

With Mandela Day nearing, the cabinet reminds all South Africans to honour and remember the beloved father of the nation and former President Nelson Mandela this July, Mandela Month.

At his State of the Nation Address (Sona) President Jacob Zuma launched the “Clean South Africa” Campaign and encouraged all South Africans to take part in it.

He encouraged all South Africans to dedicate at least 67 minutes to clean South Africa, particularly on the icon’s birthday (18 July).

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) has plans to present a Clean South Africa Award to top three municipalities during this month for having effectively cleaned their respective areas.

Mandela was a struggle icon, politician and philanthropist who was the first black president of South Africa and served the country from 1994 to 1999.

He died on 5 December last year at his Houghton home.
