Delivery van carrying valuable goods hijacked

Armed suspects escape with cellphones and valuable electronic equipment.

Randfontein Police are investigating a hijacking case after a delivery van carrying valuable goods had become a target in Randgate recently.

Spokesperson Appel Ernst confirms that a Ford Ranger delivering cellphones – with an undisclosed value – as well as other valuable electronic equipment became two armed criminals’ target.

It is believed the delivery van was about to drop off the goods at a local PEP store when the incident occurred.

“Information gathered from the 57-year-old driver at the scene indicates that he and his colleagues were at the back of the vehicle to off-load the goods when they were approached at gunpoint by two suspects,” Ernst says.

“They ordered them to stop what they were doing and forced the driver back into the cabin, instructing him to start the vehicle. They drove off to Tier Street in Greenhills,” Ernst continues.

“At their destination the suspects loaded the goods from the delivery van into a getaway vehicle that was waiting for them there. The suspects left the victims and their delivery van there and fled from the scene in their getaway vehicle.

“Fortunately they did not injure anyone during the ordeal. The case is under investigation,” Ernst adds.
