Assault case against mayor’s right hand man withdrawn

A domestic violence case against Randfontein Local Municipality mayoral spokesperson Lucky Chiya was withdrawn by the state following a mediation process.

Chiya was arrested on 28 June after allegedly assaulting his wife in Toekomsrus a few days earlier. He appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court yesterday 30 June, and is said to be released on R1 000 bail.

The herald approached Chiya for comment but he refused to do so on two occasions.

This is not the first time Chiya is accused of breaking the law. Last week the herald reported that Chiya is facing a charge of identity fraud after he allegedly used a fake identity document (ID) in December 2013 to obtain credit. He is out on R5 000 bail.
