Three suspects caught after attempted burglary

The men broke into a woman's house and assaulted her prior to fleeing on foot.

Three men were caught and arrested after an attempted burglary in Barend Street in Randgate this past Sunday (22 June).

According to EPR security operations manager Mac van Zyl, they received a panic alarm and a BBM message from the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF) prior to responding to the scene.

“We received a panic signal and were called out to the aforementioned street owing to an alleged street fight

“We immediately dispatched our reaction officers and upon their arrival, community members were already chasing two suspects down the streets.

“They alleged that these are the men who broke into a resident’s home and later assaulted her.

“Our officers joined in the chase and managed to catch up to the suspects and apprehend them,” says van Zyl.

He adds that the suspects were taken to the woman to be identified as the perpetrators.

As it happens, the woman, while identifying the men as those who broke in and assaulted her, spotted a third suspect in the crowd that had since gathered outside her house.

Officers arrested the suspect and all three were handed over to the police.
