West Rand Tourism awards a success

Businesses and Schools within the West Rand were honoured for their contribution towards the Tourism sector.

West Rand District Municipality executive mayor Mpho Nawa together with the Gauteng Tourism Authority hosted the 7th West Rand Tourism Awards ceremony this past Friday (20 June)

This was at Mount Usambara in Krugersdorp from 6pm to 10.30pm

Local businesses and schools were honoured for their contribution to the tourism sector and awarded with trophies and certificates.

Local schools such as Hoërskool Jan Viljoen , Randfontein High School, Thuto Lehakwe Secondary School and Hoërskool Westonaria are some of the schools honoured for their pilot projects which also contributed to the tourism sector.

According to Nawa, this was to show appreciation to such efforts that continue to grow the economy.

“Tourism has a huge impact on the growth of the economy and we are glad that we have businesses and schools that are attracting tourists to the West Rand and doing well in that regard.

“If anything this has a positive impact in our country’s economy and such things should be recognised and appreciated.

“Apart from that, such things contribute to job creation and the eradication of poverty in our societies,” says Nawa who adds that these awards were also aimed at building and sustaining investor confidence in the West Rand District.
