Westonaria Library gives back to the community and ensures a warm winter for the youth of the surrounding areas.

Through partnerships with organisations such as UKS, Philani Development Centre, Liasa Gauteng South and individuals such as Brenda Kirsten, Renzia van Zyl and Richard Vogel more than 300 children will ultimately have a warm and cosy winter thanks to the brand new knitted jerseys which was recently donated to them.

Programmes Librarian at Westonaria Library, Righardt le Roux, expresses his gratitude to these individuals and organisations.

Le Roux adds that the Thuthuka Créche in the Thusanang Community Centre was the first recipients of the jerseys, books and bags sponsored.

“They received these donations with great pleasure and will surely benefit from it in the cold months ahead,” says Le Roux.

Having been Le Roux’s final big event as Programme Librarian for Westonaria Library he quoted the philosopher Umberto Eco by saying “Knowing your friends are good, but knowing your enemies are even better.”

“In the light of this and an offer to go and work on national level, I made the decision to pack up my bags and move to Cape Town to make a difference on National level,” says Le Roux.

“I will sincerely miss the children with whom I had the privilege to work over the past six years.

“Seeing their determination and discipline in our pursuit to try and create a better community for all was indeed something I will always cherish.”

He added that we all need to take a moment to recognise the work these unsung heroes from within our own communities do in order to help those less fortunate.
