Hendrik Road collapses again

The road has washed away owing to weather conditions. It had already been fixed by the Gauteng province some time ago but the municipality failed to maintain it.

The joys for residents and motorists making use of the recently repaired Hendrik Road in Elandsvlei have been short lived after the road washed away and a portion of it collapsed again.

The road was severely damaged approximately two years ago during heavy rains and after more than a year of knocking down every door he could think of, Ward 9 counsellor, Peter Dick eventually managed to get the road repaired eight months ago.

“This road was fixed by the Gauteng Province’s Roads Department and the only thing the Randfontein Local Municipality had to do was maintain it.

“They clearly failed to do so and now we are sitting with this mess all over again,” says Dick.

“Now residents who live in the area have to take a huge detour just to get to their homes.

“Some of these people run businesses from their homes and this means that they will very likely lose clients.”

The herald has approached Randfontein Local Municipality head of communications Phillip Montshiwa about this matter but no comment was forthcoming by the time of publishing.
