Sexual abuse survivor does her bit for the community

She was sexually abused by her own father when she was just 8-years-old until the age of 15.

Local resident and rape survivor Fikile Farrow has launched an awareness campaign in local schools in a bid to teach pupils about sexual abuse.

“We have numerous platforms in place to assist victims of sexual abuse throughout the country, however, we find that some people are still afraid to speak up about abuse.

“That on its own goes to show that there is a gap that needs to be filled and we can never create enough awareness where that is concerned.

“Owing to this, I have decided to do my bit in society and start this campaign,” says Farrow.

She adds that she was sexually abused by her own father when she was just 8-years-old.

The abuse continued until she was 15.

She decided to open a case against her father approximately three years ago.

“I want victims of abuse to know that they are never alone.

“The law is there to assist them and bring perpetrators to book but this can only happen if the abuse is reported,” says Farrow.

So far, she has conducted numerous talks in local schools namely Bulelani Primary School and Tswelelo Primary School among others.

According to her, she will be visiting other schools in the near future and hopes that her talks will be fruitful.
