RPA Knit-a-thon here to stay

The Randfontein Publicity Association are stunned by the success of their first annual Knit-a-thon.

The Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) recently hosted their first annual Knit-a-thon and were amazed by the success this initiative enjoyed.

According to the publicity officer at the RPA, Joy Hamann, the knit-a-thon took place on 4 June at the Randfontein Rugby Club and members of the community could all come and take part in the knitting action for an hour or two.

The knit-a-thon officially started at 8am and continued until late the afternoon.

“The day was a staggering success. We had around 40 members of the community who came out to support the cause,” says Hamann.

Even members from old age homes in the surrounding area braced the cold to support the RPA.

She explains that everyone present had to knit either a scarf, beanies or bed socks.

All the products that were knitted during the event will be donated towards the RPA Winter Charity Drive.

“Although this is an RPA event, the idea was created by Magriet van der Hoven who is also a member of the RPA,” says Hamann.

“We want to thank each and every community member who took part in the event.

“Your contribution is what ensured the success of the day.

“A great vote of thanks also goes to all our sponsors who donated wool, food and hot beverages”

Hamann explains that the PRA Knit-a-thon will become an annual event and will form part of their Charity Winter Drive for many years to come.
