Solutions in the pipelines for Bekkersdal?

MEC says that his priority is to forge partnership to resolve the issues in Bekkersdal and restore normality urgently.

MEC for Gauteng Human Settelements, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Jacob Mamabolo hosted a meeting between the Gauteng Provinical Government and the Greater Westonaria Concerned Residents Association on 5 June at the municipal building.

According to Mamabolo, this was to revisit the concerns of the community in light of the pre-election service delivery protests and to discuss permanent solutions for the Bekkersdal community.

At the meeting residents raised their demands and called for basic service delivery to be implemented in the area.

In response to this, Mamabolo says that the government has welcomed the residents’ submission of demands and will work around them.

“We welcome their suggestions and we feel that the concerned residents should elect five members to work with government in the intervention task team.

“Those elected will look at urban renewal and other relevant interventions in Westonaria.

“My priority is really that we forge a partnership to resolve the issues quickly and restore normality urgently,” says Mamabolo.

He adds that government’s priority is service delivery transparency and local empowerment and this will be done through strengthening the government’s approach towards community consultation.
