Mayor promises to do more for Randfontein

This was revealed in her interaction with Randfontein residents where her achievements and failures were highlighted.

Despite criticism of her failure to fulfill her mandate, Randfontein Executive Mayor Sylvia Thebenare has promised to do more for residents of this town in terms of development.

This was revealed in a budget road show where Thebenare toured the entire Randfontein to table her plans for the town going forward.

According to mayoral spokesperson Lucky Chiya, this was also to engage with the community of Randfontein about the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).

“The mayor took this opportunity to reflect on what was achieved during the previous financial year,” says Chiya.

“She also highlighted some of the challenges faced during that time.

“This was done with the help of local ward councilors in every community where they stated what was promised in each ward and what we failed to deliver.

“Challenges ranging from the lack of street lights and the rolling out of wheelie bins in some communities were raised and taken into cognizance,” says Chiya who adds that the point of the meetings was so they can formulate a plan going forward.

According to DA Chief Whip Evert du Plessis they had a poor attendance at the Greenhills stadium on 20 May owing to the lack of notification about the meetings.

“Our meeting was poorly attended and we only had three people show up,

“This indicates that there was a lack of communication by the municipality in this regard,” says Du Plessis.

According to Chiya, the municipality never got the chance to implement some of the changes owing to budget constraints.

“People must know that we are dedicated to taking this town forward hence whatever was not done in the previous financial year will be prioritized going forward.

“This is to ensure that we stick to our plan of making sure that we have a good story to tell in Randfontein,” says Chiya.
